Special features Built in Lower Manhattan between 2006 and 2009 the Goldman Sachs New World Headquarters are now among the 25 tallest buildings in New York City with a total height of 228 m. For the new auditorium a sophisticated wall and ceiling concept was developed. An initially straight wall later splits up into three wall “levels”. Both the top and the bottom levels remain in parallel with the wall while the centre level – through an implied twist – runs in parallel with the floor. To achieve the unique structure 1,612 slats in American maple look were specially fashioned here. To this end a custom-developed software for this project transferred the data of the 3D-CAD models into the CNC machine controls thereby ensuring the precise finishing of the slats. Employees of the American property developer Turner Constructions Inc. were able to convince themselves of this during an on-site visit to our production site. Before shipping the separate wall segments were already pre-assembled on support elements so that the latter only had to be assembled by the Assembly team on site like a puzzle. |
